The Written List… Burn It Or Frame It?

by admin on March 9, 2010

I know you don’t want to hear it but you’re going to hear it.  You must make a list.  Every top ten money earner of every company started with a list.  Even all the idiots out there that prey on weakness and tell you how the list is outdated and doesn’t work, I guarantee they even they had a list.

Before you tune me out hear me out.

Network marketing is about bringing a product or service of real value to the marketplace through the power of person to person marketing.

I know you want to skip straight to the part where you get to hide behind your laptop computer at your local coffee shop pretending to be social.  P.S.  If that is really you…quit now!  Before you can leverage yourself and reach the unlimited audience online you must prove your product and opportunity offline through your circle of influence, which means our first order of business is to define what exactly is your circle of influence.

Your true circle of influence is every single person that you know, know of or have known up to this point in your life.  This includes… EVERYBODY.

Now… once again before you tune me out hear me out.

This is not to say that you will ever get around to contacting everybody on your list.  More than likely you will never get close.  The point of the list building exercise is to expand your thinking, create a mindset of abundance and open up your mind to thinking about the fringe contacts that you would not have otherwise thought of that you can and will get into contact with.

These “fringe” contacts so to speak are the ones that will make all the difference in the world to your success.

Making a true list is somewhere between a two to four hour process.  Your list must be written separately from your current records to be effective.  Make an excel spreadsheet or start with an empty notebook.

Start off with the obvious, your cell phone list, your email list and your address book, then move to using a memory jogger or yellow pages to extend your list.  Part of the magic of this process is the manual nature of it.  As you physically write or type a name your mind will often come to life with a related name or contact that is in some way associate with the name of the person currently being written.

People on your list don’t even have to have a name!  Often you won’t even know how to contact someone you wrote down… that’s ok! Instead of a name you could write “that gal at Starbucks I get my latte from every morning”.

Maximize this process.  Don’t stop till you are well past 200 or 300 names.  EVERYONE can think up this many names… as long you are not pre-judging!  Don’t worry about what you are going to say or if you can even get into contact with each person on the list, just make the list!
